Little Dreamer GGUDA and five kids

K-animations created by Korean directors in Indonesia are reportedly drawing the attention of the global animation market. Little Dreamer GGUDA and DinoPowers are the animations created by Korean animation directors who established a company in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.

Little Dreamer GGUDA, directed by Oh Seung-hyun, is an educational animation for preschoolers. The story of this animation is about five kids who spend happy days on the beautiful island, Jeju. Director Oh established an animation company in Jakarta in 2018, after working for American animation companies such as Disney and Warner Bros, and hired Indonesian employees to produce Little Dreamer GGUDA. The animation was produced with a joint investment from Korea, China, and Indonesia, and is being aired on public television in these three countries.

DinoPowers, directed by Kim Jin-cheol, is a 3D animation about four heroes who fight against villains with the power of dinosaur robots. Kim, who also directed the animation Hello Carbot, set up an animation company in Jakarta in 2020 and created DinoPowers in collaboration with a Chinese toy company. The animation began airing on 33 local broadcasts in China last month and started airing in Korea in June. It will also be broadcast on Indonesia’s RTV soon.

The two directors said they are happy that their animations are being aired in three countries. They aim to increase the number of employees working for their animation companies and produce feature-length animations in the future.

They praised the Indonesian employees’ passion, saying that their enthusiasm was a great help in their animation production. They also mentioned that Indonesian employees have an excellent understanding and creativity pivotal in producing animations.

Indonesia is a country with low labor costs, high productivity, and abundant labor. In addition, this country has a population of 74 million children under the age of 14, so there is a large population to consume animations. All these make Indonesia very suitable as an animation production base.

Little Dreamer GGUDA and Dino Powers are currently being aired in three countries: Korea, China, and Indonesia, but they are expected to be aired soon in more countries and bring positive changes to the global animation market.
